CHYSC Girls’ Lacrosse registration information SPRING 2015
The Chestnut Hill Youth Sports Club is pleased to announce our eighth season of girls’ lacrosse for the spring of 2015. We will be fielding the following teams: K/2nd grade combined, 3rd/4th grade combined, 5th/6th grade combined, and 7th/8th grade combined. All teams are based on school grade levels, not birth dates. No experience is necessary for any age group.
Note that if your daughter played for Chestnut Hill in 2014 at 5th grade or above, she cannot move to another local club in our PAGLA (East) League. Under extraordinary circumstances, players can change clubs with the written approval of both the current and future club directors/commissioners.
We welcome and expect parent volunteers to help coach and manage each age group. Please e-mail Brandi McLaughlin at email@example.com if you’d like to become involved in helping us with this exciting and fast-growing sport.
Registration will begin the week of November 17th, and will close on January 12th for all teams except K/2nd grade, which will remain open through the first week of April. To register, go to www.chysc.org and follow the link for girls’ lacrosse.
Kindergarten/2nd grade level will be instructional only, and will meet once a week, for 8 weeks, on Sunday afternoons in April and May. (Kindergarteners must be 5 years old on or before August 31, 2014 – no exceptions). There will be two playdays (informal tournament) with other local lacrosse clubs. Chestnut Hill will host one playday. Please note that kindergarteners will only participate in the playday hosted by CHYSC. Coaches will be local middle school girls’ lacrosse players, supervised by adult Club volunteers. Instruction will focus on cradling, catching, throwing, ground balls, and a basic understanding of how the game is played.
3rd/4th grade level will be primarily an instructional league. There will be two weekday practices at Carson Valley which will begin in late March, and run through the first weekend in June. The season will include several round-robin games on Saturday afternoons with other local PAGLA (Philadelphia Area Girls’ Lacrosse Association) clubs, home and away, and will include two playdays (informal tournament), one at Abington HS in May; one the first weekend in June. Coaches will be adult Club volunteers. Instruction will focus on lacrosse fundamentals, age appropriate conditioning, and development of team play.
5th/6th grade teams and 7th/8th grade teams will play 8-10 games in the PAGLA East league, comprising clubs in eastern Montgomery and lower Bucks counties, and will participate in two playdays. We will have tryouts in March for A and B teams at 5th/6th and 7th/8th grade, with placement based upon ability. We will field A and/or B teams at each level, depending upon our numbers and the girls’ ability. It is our intent to offer lacrosse to all girls who sign up; however, we may not be able to form a team or offer instruction at a given age group or level if we have insufficient numbers (minimum 16 girls/team). According to PAGLA league rules, 6th graders are not allowed to play on a 7th/8th grade team unless the older age group does not have enough grade-appropriate players. The season runs from mid-March to early June. Practice times will be twice a week during weekday evenings, and once during weekends when there are no games. Practices will be at our Carson Valley fields in Flourtown and at local school fields. Games are once a week on Saturday mornings, with an occasional weeknight or Sunday afternoon game. Coaches will be adult Club volunteers.
Fees are as follows:
K/2nd grade $ 60
3rd/4th grade $115 (includes two playday entry fees)
5th/6th grade $160(includes two PAGLA playday entry fees)
7th/8th grade $160 (includes two PAGLA playday entry fees)
NOTE: Girls at the 5th through 8th grade levels will be required to join US Lacrosse as a junior member at a cost of $25/member in order to play in playdays and tournaments. This fee is not included in the fees above, and shall be assessed at a later date as teams enter PAGLA or PLA tournaments. Supplemental fees may be assessed should teams decide to participate in additional playdays/tournaments.
Girls will be expected to provide their own sticks, eyewear, and mouthguard. Note that girls’ sticks are different from boys’ sticks. All equipment is mandatory at all practices and games. The Club will provide goalie equipment, jerseys, goals and practice balls. Information regarding types of equipment and store locations will be available later. Looking forward to seeing you all in the spring!
